More Than 2.5 Million People…

NCH donors helped us reach more than 2.5 million people in 2016. That’s 1.2 million more people than in 2015. It’s 1.8 million more people than in 2014. And the number continues to grow every single day.

But, with the rapid growth and interest in our field, we urgently need to reach our 2016 fundraising goal of $150,000 to ensure we can cover costs of 2017 education, outreach, and advocacy. We are only 50% there, and the days to fund our needed budget are numbered.

Please give as generously as you can to NCH this holiday season – your gift today will help to contribute to a better tomorrow.

Homeopathy for the Holidays

Remember that homeopathy can help you increase the joy and reduce the stress and discomfort of this holiday season. Whether it’s jitters over presenting the perfect meal for your family gathering, anxiety about seeing your overly critical sister in-law, or a headache from having one too many glasses of champagne while celebrating the new year, homeopathy has much to offer. Here are a few of the most common remedies that the holidays find us reaching for:

  • Gelsemium - This remedy can help anxiety before an upcoming performance, whether that’s jitters before being in a holiday play or chorus, or nervous trembling in anticipation of hosting a family meal or get-together. It’s especially indicated if you tend to sit and stew, internalizing the anxiety and feeling paralyzed with fear.
  • Argentum nitricum - Think of this remedy when the pre-holiday anxiety has you restless, pacing, and craving sweets.
  • Cocculus - Consider this remedy for the exhaustion and stress of shopping, staying up late at night, attending many parties, and depriving yourself of sleep. Your mind may feel numb from it all and your head dizzy.
  • Nux vomica - This remedy can be useful for everything from heartburn and stomach pain after eating to hangovers and constipation. You may feel especially irritable and sensitive to noise and light.
  • Pulsatilla - This remedy is indicated for indigestion or other problems from overindulgence in fatty food, particularly rich and creamy foods. You may feel better in the open air and from gentle motion.
  • Coffea - This is especially helpful for children who cannot sleep with the excitement of anticipation.
  • Ignatia - Think of this remedy if you feel sadness at the holidays, with sighing, a lump in the throat, and grief over memories that tend to come up.

Breaking Free from Antidepressants: A safe, natural approach to reducing meds and lifting depression

A whopping 23% of women in their 40s and 50s and nearly 11% of all people over age 12 take antidepressants in the U.S. While these drugs can be lifesavers for some people in the short term, the effects tend to wear off for many who take them for longer periods. Troublesome side effects are common, too, including weight gain, low libido, and insomnia.

These pitfalls make many people want to stop taking their antidepressants. But going “cold turkey” is not the answer! Many will develop withdrawal symptoms so bad that they end up back on higher doses of the drugs, unable to quit. So what’s a person to do?

Read the Winter issue of Homeopathy Today to learn about the process that Jennifer Bahr, ND, has found most effective in safely and successfully reducing or eliminating antidepressant medications in her patients who request her help. You will find that homeopathy is essential to her method.

THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann – An Outline
Provided in tribute to Julian Winston, May 1941 – June 2005, beloved Editor-In-Chief of Homeopathy Today for 21 years.

It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.

196-203: local diseases (continued)

  1.  It might seem that cure would be hastened by the application of the remedy locally as well as internally.

  2.  This should not be done. In diseases where there is a local affliction, the application of the remedy to the surface may annihilate the local symptoms before the internal disease, and this may seem to be a cure but isn't.

  3.  The use of topical applications alone is inadmissible. If you only remove the local symptoms, it is often hard to see the more obscure inner symptoms (which may be slightly characteristic and difficult to see).

  4.  If the external symptoms have been removed (by surgery, etc.) the remaining internal symptoms might be too vague to discover the remedy because the external symptoms can no longer be seen.

  5.  If the external symptoms hadn't been removed, the remedy of the whole disease would have been found and would have resulted in a perfect cure.

  6.  The vital force, when expressing a chronic disease, keeps the disease on the surface, and therefore does not threaten life itself. But since the external manifestation is a part of the general disease, as the disease gets worse the external manifestation gets worse—so it can still be a substitute.

  7.  If the external disease is now destroyed, nature will make up the loss by increasing the internal disease. This is incorrectly referred to as being "driven back into the system."

  8.  Removing the external without treating the internal is a criminal procedure.

Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book.
The Organon is usually studied by the intermediate to advanced student of homeopathy.

Homeopathy at Harvard Medical School Conference

NCH Meets with Senator Casey

Represented by board member Sharlene Goldfischer, National Center for Homeopathy was proudly “at the table” on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 as a group of homeopathic industry leaders met with Senator Robert Casey (D-PA) at the Neiswander Homeopathic Library in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Senator Casey is on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee and is ranking member on the Subcommittee on Children and Families, the Special Committee on Aging, and the National Security Working Group, among others.

The senator met with this group to hear about some of the current issues surrounding homeopathic medicine, to learn more about homeopathy, including its history, benefits and regulatory framework, and to build a relationship with industry leaders as the HELP committee on which he serves has jurisdiction over the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The homeopathic industry representatives present were aiming to develop genuine congressional supporters who embrace a regulatory system that promotes public health by continuing to allow for robust consumer access to homeopathic medicine.

Senator Casey asked insightful questions, offered praise for the steps that have already been taken, and expressed support via working to connect industry representatives with his office staff and being open to future discussions as things move forward.

Homeopathic Cold and Cough Syrup Study

A study suggests that homeopathic cold and cough syrup may be an effective way to rid a child of bothersome upper respiratory symptoms. Researchers at the University of Washington’s School of Public Health and Community Medicine examined data on 261 children between the ages of 2 and 5 who were patients at a primary care pediatric practice affiliated with the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Learn more.

Arnica Study

A new study confirms that Arnica montana stimulates extracellular matrix gene expression in a macrophage cell line differentiated to wound-healing phenotype. The findings provide new insights into wound-associated molecular events and specifically point to macrophage fibronectin production as a potential therapeutic target of Arnica for the treatment of wound repair. Your daughter wakes up at 11:00 pm complaining of a painful earache. You can tell immediately that she has a high fever by the heat radiating from her body. When she went to bed only two hours ago she seemed perfectly fine. You lead her back to her room, grabbing your homeopathic home care book and kit on the way. After taking her temperature, which is 102 degrees, you begin to jot down her symptoms:

  • Sudden, high fever
  • Earache, right ear
  • Headache
  • Eyes are glassy
  • Skin is red, hot and dry (no sweating), but her feet are ice cold.

She drifts off back to sleep and you are consulting your book when you observe that her sleep is restless. She is grinding her teeth and jerking every few minutes. What remedy do you give her?

Stories of Inspiration

During exterior house renovations done by a siding company, my husband overheard one of the workers commenting to a co-worker about a spider bite on his knee that was getting worse by the day. He was clearly distressed. My husband sought more information and found that a spider had not only bitten the worker five days earlier, but the description of the culprit fit the definition of a brown recluse spider. The initial response on the knee was that of a small hot reddened area with pain and itching. Now, several days after the bite, the lesion had developed into a hard dark-colored nodule about one centimeter in diameter. Pain and signs of reddening were also developing radially several centimeters beyond the nodule. He reported that he had lanced the lesion with a pin at home, and with squeezing, a tiny amount of black pus oozed out, but there was still no relief.

I gave him Apis and he went home for the evening. The next morning we had a happy, excited worker arrive at the site. The bite had almost completely resolved and he has continued to do well since then.

To drive the kind of culture that consistently and effectively produces results of this nature, companies must first create a culture where quality objectives are transparent, well understood, and acted upon routinely. The AAHP recently published The Importance of Standard Operating Procedures by Mark Land, AAHP President. View the article online here.

Our teams are successfully treating malaria, cholera, typhoid, fevers, parasites, and the deep-seated effects of shock and grief. People come to our clinics in crowds. Clearly, supporting homeopathy in Haiti strengthens the health of the Haitian people both now and for generations to come.

Please continue to sustain our work by visiting Facebook and our website. Your support is a blessing!
HWB’s mission is to introduce or advance the understanding and use of homeopathy in areas where it does not yet exist or is minimally available, as well as to promote and provide homeopathic care and healing in emergency situations.

North American Society of Homeopaths (NASH)

We would like to recognize during this season of giving, all of the NASH members who give of themselves through their practice of homeopathy. We have members who work and volunteer with populations who are in the most need, such the homeless, addicts, veterans, and those dealing with crisis and trauma. And we know that there are many members who are quiet about how they use their homeopathic expertise to contribute to other needy populations. The NASH Board would like to publicly thank you.

We encourage anyone who loves homeopathy and would like to ensure that NASH continues to promote all professional homeopaths, to visit our website and support our mission.

You can find details on the NASH Foundation and the Elizabeth Bonfig Scholarship Fund (awarded annually to one or two serious, deserving homeopathic students) as well as the opportunity to contribute to those projects here.
