#GivingTuesday 2016

NCH is once again joining #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that will harness the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities and nonprofits, schools, businesses, families and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and the kickoff of the holiday season, #GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, to give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support, and to help create a better world. Will you join us? Learn more about this exciting movement and how you can give back on November 29  here.

Action Alert Reminder! Fight Misconceptions

On September 30th, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a press release warning consumers to stop using all homeopathic teething tablets, gels, and preparations. The sensational and dramatic headlines that followed created a public scare and led to the removal of homeopathic teething products from the shelves of stores. What can you do? Help NCH fight misconceptions about the safety of homeopathic medicines and spread the facts!

Trust Your Gut! And Overcome Upper GI Conditions

The notion that our gut is inextricably linked to our emotions extends back as far as Greek and Roman times. It’s also a tenet of traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medical systems. Modern scientists are finally beginning to recognize it, too, and they’ve dubbed it the “gut-brain connection.”

Homeopaths make good use of this “gut-brain connection” to help people overcome indigestion, acid reflux, and more. Learn all about it in the upcoming Winter 2017 issue of Homeopathy Today. Also: Find out which 5 homeopathic remedies are indispensable for the upcoming holiday festivities!

A subscription to Homeopathy Today is available exclusively to NCH members. Joining NCH as a member is a wonderful way to deepen your understanding of homeopathy and connection to the community. In addition to this highly acclaimed magazine there are other valuable benefits. But more than that, membership dues help us fulfill our mission to promote health through homeopathy and raise awareness. THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann – An Outline
Provided in tribute to Julian Winston, May 1941 – June 2005, beloved Editor-In-Chief of Homeopathy Today for 21 years.

It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.

185-195: One-Sided Cases:

  1. Local maladies appear on external parts of the body. That they stand alone is absurd.
  2. Problems which are "local" and have been produced from without have great effect on the whole living organism. When mechanical aid is needed, then surgery is required (setting bones, bringing skin together, extracting foreign objects, etc.) but the whole living organism requires dynamic aid to accomplish the work of healing.
  3. But "local" manifestations that are not produced by external injury have their source within the body. To see them and treat them as external is as absurd as it is pernicious.
  4. It is absurd to think that living organisms know nothing of these external problems.
  5. All external maladies (except injuries) come about as a result of an internal diseased state.
  6. All treatments, therefore, must be directed against the whole.
  7. This is confirmed through experience.
  8. All changes, not just the local affliction, must be taken into account when determining the remedy.
  9. When the dose is taken, the general morbid state of the body is cured, and with it, the local affliction—which was an inseparable part of the whole disease.
  10. In local diseases it is of no use to apply remedies locally for the topical affliction, even if it is the same remedy that is used internally. If the vital force was not competent to restore full health, then the acute disease was a manifestation of latent psora which has now burst forth.
  11. To cure such cases (which are not rare), give the anti-psoric remedy after the acute stage has subsided. This is all that is required in non-venereal cases.

Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book.
The Organon is usually studied by the intermediate to advanced student of homeopathy.

Twenty One Years of Progress

A special issue of the British journal Homeopathy recently marked the 21st anniversary of the book “Ultra High Dilution,” published in 1994. In the Autumn 2016 edition of the Homeopathy Research Institute’s “Research in Focus” article, they present highlights from these wide-ranging commentaries on developments in the field of ultra-high dilution research from 1994-2015.  Read more.

While teaching your grandson to fish on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, he suddenly yelps and sits down on a rock pulling off his flip flop. You see the culprit. A fish hook had made its way through the bottom of his sandal and there is a clear puncture wound on his big toe! You both return to the rental cottage for your first-aid kit. Once you get him settled on the porch you have him use some sterile gauze to catch the small amount of blood that is trickling out, but instruct him not to apply pressure and allow it to bleed freely. While cleaning the wound you notice that his toe is pale and feels a bit cold. What remedy do you give him?

Stories of Inspiration

After receiving a call from the school nurse, I drove to the school to pick up my nine-year-old daughter. She had a fever, diarrhea, was vomiting, couldn’t eat anything and would only drink in sips. I gave her Arsenicum album and by the next morning she was feeling much better. Then later that same evening, her vomiting and diarrhea returned. She became very weak and my husband suggested that we soon consider going to the hospital. I decided to have one more go and put the Arsenicum album in water and let it dissolve. After that I gave it to my daughter to drink. Ten minutes later she asked for more water and then fell asleep. She woke up at 2:00 a.m. without vomiting or diarrhea and asked for more water and returned to bed. When she woke up in the morning she was a healthy child eating and drinking well. Amazing!

Homeopaths Without Borders (HWB)

HWB needs your help to be able to respond to the Hurricane Matthew crisis in Haiti.

HWB’s first Volunteer Team flew to Haiti on Thursday, October 13 with loads of homeopathic medicines, water purification systems, and other equipment. We are teaming up with Dr. Joseph Prosper and the HWB-trained Homéopathes Communautaires to set up clinics in areas hardest hit by Hurricane Matthew, beginning in Petit Goâve.

Cholera is on the rise, and the effects of this latest trauma on the population are great. Volunteer Teams #2 and #3 continue to work in areas that need the most help, and we will continue to send in Volunteer Teams as long as we have funds and capable volunteers.

Learn more about HWB’s work in Haiti and how you can help on our website here.
HWB’s mission is to introduce or advance the understanding and use of homeopathy in areas where it does not yet exist or is minimally available, as well as to promote and provide homeopathic care and healing in emergency situations.

North American Society of Homeopaths (NASH)

Are you thinking about studying in order to eventually practice homeopathy?

Many questions arise around becoming certified in homeopathy and being able to practice legally in the United States and Canada. Many students want to have a credential that gives legitimacy to their capability as a homeopath. What these credentials mean and how they impact the legality of practice is worthy of discussion. To read more about NASH’s position on this issue, please visit the Education tab on our website  here.
NASH is dedicated to promoting, representing and serving as the voice of all professional homeopaths in North America. In addition to our Registered members, we offer membership at various levels – including Student, Associate and School.
