We’re Growing…and Would Love Your Help!

The NCH website has grown in popularity over the last couple of years by a whopping 600% (yay!). And the new visitors have let us know that they’d like us to provide even more information. We are looking for volunteers to help curate and develop new content and/or stories for inclusion on the NCH website on the following topics:

  • How to become a professional homeopath.
  • How to choose a homeopathy school to attend.
  • How to talk to my primary care practitioner/other health care provider about my choice to use homeopathy.
  • How to talk to a skeptical family member about using homeopathy.

To help, simply contact us at and let us know which topic(s) you would like to contribute to and we will send you further details.

Meet the NCH Board of Directors
Each month we highlight a Board Member to help you get better acquainted with the faces of NCH.

When my infant son spiked a 105 degree fever and lay like a rag doll in my arms, it was Belladonna 30C that opened the door to homeopathy for me. And from that day, I searched to learn more and to find ways to share my knowledge with others. I attended the New England School of Homeopathy and Hahnemann College of Homeopathy in California. I also studied with George Vithoulkas, Jeremy Sherr, Lou Klein and Rajan Sankaran. Eventually I set up a private practice in New York City and went on to teach at most of the major hospitals in New York: Columbia Presbyterian, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Hospital for Special Surgeries and Lenox Hill Hospital. When NYU established its Holistic Nursing program, my classes in homeopathy became a requirement for the advanced practice degree. I also taught at homeopathic colleges: Teleosis and the American Medical College of Homeopathy. For all my work in the US, some of my most rewarding work has been in other countries- with Homeopaths Without Borders in Trinidad and in Haiti and with medical doctors who are working to establish homeopathy in Afghanistan.

Constant exposure to the global 24-hour news cycle with instant images via computer and cell phone has many of my patients feeling a strong impact from these tragic events, no matter where in the world they occur,” writes Amy Rothenberg, ND in her upcoming article for the Autumn 2016 issue of Homeopathy Today.

Learn why homeopathy is an excellent therapy for people suffering with post-traumatic stress after experiencing horrific events—whether experienced directly or indirectly—and which remedies can help.

Urgent Petition to Save Homeopathic Hospital

Please take a moment to help to oppose the decision to close the in-patient ward at the Centre for Integrative Care (Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital). As of writing this, there are 39,915 signatures and less than 100 days left to reach the goal of 1 million.

The hospital offers support for some of the most seriously ill people in Scotland, many of whom have exhausted all other National Health Service (NHS) treatment options, as well as those who can clinically benefit from access to NHS holistic treatment. Most of these patients will have nowhere else to go should this hospital ward close due to further cuts to services and will directly affect the quality of life of the patients who depend on this essential service. Read more and sign the petition.

Worldwide Growth of the Market for Homeopathic Products

The global homeopathic products market is witnessing strong growth due to effective and efficient treatments available in homeopathy for various diseases. Homeopathy is proved to be effective in many cases of chronic and acute diseases. Even though there is lack of clear understanding regarding how homeopathic medicines work, there is clear evidence that the medicines are active and can be curative. In India, homeopathic medicine has been fully incorporated with both traditional ayurvedic and western medicine. African homeopathic medicine market is also growing at a fast rate due to its affordability and effective system of medicine that fits with many traditional African spiritual beliefs. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), homeopathy is the second largest system of medicine with a growth rate of 20-25% each year. The growing popularity of homeopathy and its legal acceptance has been seen in 66 countries.

THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann –  An Outline
Provided in tribute to Julian Winston, May 1941 – June 2005, beloved Editor-In-Chief of Homeopathy Today for 21 years.

It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.

146-171: The application of the medicine to the disease

  1. The third point concerns the use of the medicines. The physician must be judicious in his use of these agents.
  2. The most similar must be used.
  3. An explanation of how homoeopathy probably works.
  4. Acute diseases can respond quickly, but chronic diseases take longer to treat.
  5. Trivial symptoms of short duration are indispositions and can be cured by diet and regimen.
  6. More violent sufferings will provide, upon investigation, a complete picture of the disease.
  7. The numerous striking symptoms will lead to a homoeopathic remedy.
  8. The striking, singular, uncommon, and peculiar signs and symptoms are the most important. The general symptoms are observed in every disease and from almost every drug.
  9. If the striking symptoms of the medicine match those of the disease, and the disease is not one of long standing, it will be removed by the first dose, without "considerable disturbance."

Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book.
The Organon is usually studied by the intermediate to advanced student of homeopathy.

Homeopathic Medicinal Product: A Randomized Controlled Trial

The journal of Global Pediatric Health has published a randomized, controlled and multinational clinical trial investigation on the clinical effectiveness of the product Influcid® in pediatric subpopulation with upper respiratory tract infections (URTI). Data from 261 children in Germany and Ukraine were used for this investigation. The study showed that Influcid® as an add-on treatment in pediatric URTI reduced global disease severity, shortened symptom resolution and was safe to use. See the study here.

Official Challenge to Controversial Australian Report

In March 2015, the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) published an Information Paper on homeopathy, which concluded that, “there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective.”

Despite the multiple serious scientific flaws which undermine the credibility of this report, its findings received widespread attention in the international media. On August 4 2016 the Australian Homoeopathic Association (AHA), Complementary Medicines Australia (CMA) and the Australian Traditional Medicine Association (ATMS) submitted a combined formal submission of complaint to the Australian Commonwealth Ombudsman.

An investigation has been requested for bias, conflicts of interest, procedural irregularities, sub-standard scientific methods and undue influence of government processes by vested interests antagonistic to homeopathy.

As HRI raised concerns about the scientific failings of the report with NHMRC formally during public consultation on the draft report, we await the outcome of this Ombudsman challenge with interest. For more information about the Australian Report, click here.

Evidence Based Homeopathy: What are the Best Scientific Studies That Verify the Efficacy of Homeopathic Medicines?
September 28, 2016, 8:00pm – 9:00pm ET

There is actually much more clinical and basic sciences evidence for homeopathy than most people realize. A leading 2014 review of clinical research in homeopathy confirmed that four of five of the meta-analyses evaluating homeopathic treatment in general found benefit as compared with placebo. There have even been numerous studies that have found that homeopathic treatment was at least as effective as conventional medical treatment...and is considerably safer.

Further, numerous studies have found that using homeopathic medicines leads to reduced use of conventional medications. Besides health benefits to individuals and families who use homeopathic medicines, cost-effectiveness studies have shown reduced overall health care costs when people use these natural medicines. In addition to these various bodies of clinical evidence from homeopathic treatment, there is an even larger body of basic science studies, including relatively new evidence that may help explain how and why homeopathic medicines work. Using user-friendly and somewhat non-technical language, listeners to this webinar will learn how to explain how homeopathic medicines may work in a way that is even compelling to skeptics of homeopathy.

About the Presenter - Dana Ullman, MPH, CCH is a widely recognized author and spokesperson for homeopathic medicine in the U.S. He is the founder of Homeopathic Educational Services, a leading resource center for homeopathic books, tapes, medicines, software, and correspondence courses. In addition to providing in-person care at his office in Berkeley, CA, he provides homeopathic consultations to people from all over the world, conducting interviews by telephone, over Skype and online. He is also the creator of a special video and e-book e-course in "Learning how to use a homeopathic medicine kit."

Your friend comes to you for help with a longstanding complaint of seasonal allergies, appearing every June and extending through the haying season into late August. He attributes his symptoms to grass pollens and is markedly worse when mowing the lawn, when passing freshly mown fields or mowing operations when driving, or when following a hay truck; he finds some relief from visits to the coast on weekends.

His allergy symptoms involve the eyes, nose, larynx, lungs and sinuses, along with a very disturbing dullness and confusion of thought. All symptoms, and particularly the mental confusion and sinus headache, are better from washing his face with cold water, and the headache is better with air-conditioning indoors or in the car.

His eyes sometimes itch horribly, better with aggressive rubbing, and they water profusely, which is irritating, with the eyelid margins often reddened and irritated. He avoids bright light, which bothers him during attacks.

Nasal discharge is profuse, watery, "like a faucet;" but not irritating (the skin below the nose is never reddened or raw). The discharge is better in the open air, worse in the house or the car. In the more severe attacks, he feels a tickling in the larynx, which can progress to wheezing and tightness of breath. Coughing often hurts in the mid-chest, behind the sternum, and is better with cold drinks.

Head pain is a "constrictive" feeling above the eyes and root of nose, and he attributes this to his sinuses.

What remedy do you give him?

Stories of Inspiration

While tossing down a bale of hay, I was met with a cloud of angry bees that had built a nest between the bales. As I made a hasty retreat down the ladder, getting stung all the way, my foot slipped, causing a nasty fall and sprained ankle. I hopped and limped back to the house, where I grabbed the Apis 30x and took a dose to stop the burning stings, then wrapped a bag of frozen peas around my swollen ankle.

For the next hour I sat on the sofa with my foot elevated, a vial of Arnica 30x in one hand and a vial of Ruta grav 6x in the other. I alternated doses every fifteen minutes and watched the swelling go down. That evening I was able to finish feeding and watering the horses with very little discomfort. I had completely forgotten to take any more Apis, but that one dose had done the trick. Homeopathy is truly amazing!
