Meet the NCH Board of Directors
Each month we highlight a Board Member to help you get better acquainted with the faces of NCH.

Abby Beale, CCH, RSHom(NA) became interested in homeopathy over 20 years ago when her nine-month old son had repeated ear infections with no relief after many antibiotics. One trip to a homeopath and the infections were resolved. This amazingly curious event got her interested in learning more and began reading about homeopathy. Along with the expert guidance of qualified homeopath, she treated her family and eventually studied to become a nationally certified classical homeopath.

Abby has been on the NCH board since 2011. She is passionate about educating people about homeopathy and is excited about the organization’s growth and consumer outreach. She served as JAHC conference chair for 2015 and 2016 and is currently serving as President-Elect.

In addition to her homeopathic practice and board work, Abby also runs two training businesses, The Corporate Educator and Rev It Up Reading, which offer in-person and online educational programs on various business productivity topics and speed reading. She has authored several speed reading books and one on study skills. She is also a board member for her local library where she is the current president.

Abby is happily married to Chris and has two college-aged sons. She also manages the care and affairs of her mother and step-father. She enjoys Master’s swimming, walking, yoga and reading as time allows.

2017 JAHC – Start Planning for Atlanta Now

It’s not too early to start planning to attend the 2017 Annual Conference Joint American Homeopathic Conference being held March 31-April 2, 2017 in Atlanta, GA. We know that attending in-person events takes some financial planning, but attending the JAHC is not just an expense, it is an investment. Here are five reasons to make the investment in April:

  1. Education – Regardless of how experienced you are, when it comes to homeopathy there is always more learn. Without exposure to a variety of points of view, we can miss out on new ideas and approaches that can impact future results.
  2. Networking – The conference provides a great opportunity to network.  Often other homeopaths and business owners from other regions of the country can become valuable resources for referrals. Plus, when we get together and connect on a personal level we can help each other uncover ideas and spark inspiration.
  3. Position Yourself as an Expert – When you are active in the community, you can develop a reputation as an expert to your peers and clients. Those who are consistently engaged over the long term are often asked to present at events, provide webinars and write articles. Also, clients feel good about doing business with those that are recognized by their peers.
  4. Meet Your Favorite Companies In Person – Many of our JAHC exhibitors specialize in serving our community. Meeting representatives from the companies and organizations that you do business with online, and by phone, is a wonderful experience. It’s so nice to put a face to the voice over the phone or text behind an email. Not to mention stocking up on products with without any shipping fees!
  5. Have fun – In some areas of the country, working in the field of homeopathy can often be isolating. It’s down-right fun to get together to learn, laugh and celebrate how homeopathy makes life better. Never underestimate the power of a little camaraderie and fun with like-minded people!

Stay tuned in the upcoming months for further details such as keynote speakers!

Three Ways to Promote Homeopathy for Free

Do you save your monetary donations until the end of the year? For some, it just seems easier to wait and give to our favorite charities during the holiday season. One downside to that is the mid-year tug to our conscience when we realize that we should be doing more to help promote homeopathy throughout the year. Here are three easy things that you can do this summer to give back in a way that doesn’t involve your wallet:

  1. Follow NCH on Twitter and give back by simply retweeting our tweets. For non-profits like NCH, Twitter is an amazing way to reach a broader audience with just a few clicks and you can help to extend our reach by retweeting our tweets to your network. Connect with us on Twitter here.
  2. Commit to posting one message about NCH to your Facebook page a month. Send your FB friends to your favorite open to the public NCH website pages such as:
  3. Provide a “Why I Give” to NCH statement. We are the “voice of change,” letting others know – from legislators to neighbors – how homeopathy makes a difference. That collective voice is heard with your support. Help us make sure the NCH voice is as strong as it can be by sharing why you give to NCH here.

THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann –  An Outline
Provided in tribute to Julian Winston, May 1941 – June 2005, beloved Editor-In-Chief of Homeopathy Today for 21 years.

It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.

143-145: Conducting Provings:

  1. If we collect all the symptoms produced, we have a true materia medica
  2. Nothing conjectural, imaginary, or mere assertion should be included in the book
  3. If the symptoms are accurately stated, we now have a curative substance for every disease

Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book.
The Organon is usually studied by the intermediate to advanced student of homeopathy.

Have you had trouble making your NCH payments online? The culprit could be your billing address. But don’t go for the phone or lick that stamp just yet; the fix to an AVS error message is quick and easy. AVS stands for Address Verification System, which is used to determine if the billing address is correct. If you get this message while paying online it is because the billing address that is being provided doesn’t match the billing address for the card. Your primary mailing address will default as your billing address. On the Checkout page simply click the Change link that appears under the Billing Address section. In the pop-up window you will then have the ability to store up to four different addresses on your NCH account (Home, Work, Billing and Other) and you can easily select the one that is your billing address for the card that you are using. And if the billing address for your card isn’t yet programmed you can easily add it on that same page by using the Edit link. Your address updates will conveniently be saved for your next online transaction. Get started by logging into your account now.

Harvard Study Has Good News for Homeopathic Medicine

The American Journal of Public Health has recently published a survey article out of Harvard that shows that homeopathic medicine, while still only used by a small fraction of the US population, has jumped 15% in use. In addition, most users put homeopathy among the top 3 complementary and integrative strategies they use in their health care. Continue reading.

Seven Essential Remedies for Kids
August 24, 2016, 8:00pm – 9:00pm ET

In this webinar we will learn about some of the most frequently used remedies for children and how to recognize when to use them. Once you are familiar with this handful of remedies you’ll be prepared to start using homeopathy for a wide variety of acute conditions that children may develop including injuries, fevers, colic, teething, croup and more. We will also review criteria for assessing the need for immediate medical care and how to safely include homeopathy as part of your family’s wellness plan.

About the presenter: Linda Baker, MD, CCH is a board certified pediatrician who, after many years of practicing allopathic medicine was actively looking for a safer, more effective and holistic way of practicing medicine when she attended the NCH summer school in 2000. She immediately saw the value of homeopathy and has since graduated from Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy, obtained CCH certification and founded Wellspring Homeopathic Care in 2004. Particular areas of interest are in Pediatrics, Women’s Health, and in the role of homeopathy in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Your grown son is visiting with the grandkids and is suffering from a sinus infection. You notice him rubbing his left ear and he admits that that there is a sharp, stitch-like pain. He feels better outside while we are cooking on the grill and eating dinner on the deck. He doesn’t want to eat any meat and is craving a beer. The discharge from his nose is greenish-yellow, thick and stringy. What remedy do you give him?

Stories of Inspiration

Soon after my husband and I moved to western NC we discovered that there were many old items buried in the front of our property. One day he was struggling to dig and pull up a metal bed frame. In doing so he accidentally punctured his arm with one of the rusty bed springs. Yikes! He came into the house to show me his wound and explained what had happened. My mind swirled with the usual – Ledum for the puncture as well as Hypericum, which combined should stave off any fear of tetanus. It just so happens that we were expecting friends from the north any moment for an annual visit.  His arm was starting to get streaks just as they were arriving.

They advised emphatically that he needed to get a tetanus shot. I told him to do whatever he felt comfortable with, however, I asked if he would trust the advice of my mentor/homeopathic practitioner if I could get in touch with her asap. Thankfully she answered right away, reminded me to always use Arnica for any trauma and to make a dilution w/ all three remedies to pour on the wound directly, which I did.

Our friends were very uncomfortable with the fact that we weren’t rushing off to the emergency room and eventually convinced him that he needed to go.

He returned home about 30 minutes later explaining that the wait was very long and while he was sitting there that the streaks on his arm started receding  so he decided to trust homeopathy. He healed quickly and now many years later, never had a problems with that puncture wound.

American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists (AAHP)

The AAHP’s latest educational webinar illustrates the homeopathic industry fostering a relationship with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the highest quality of safe medicines to retailers, consumers and health practitioners across the U.S. Per the request of AAHP, the agency provided staff to present updates on its Compliance Policy for homeopathic products directly to the industry’s manufacturers, distributors and marketers.

Brad Pace, acting director of the FDA Compliance Office’s Division of Nonprescription Drugs and Health Fraud, presented best manufacturing and labeling practices to AAHP members and other industry leaders on May 24, 2016. During the webinar, Pace communicated that homeopathic products are legally marketed in the United States when they contain active ingredients that are prepared homeopathically and labeled properly. He noted homeopathic products are no exception to the agency’s concern with over-the-counter drugs in any class that are marketed inappropriately for serious conditions. Continue reading.
