Happy National Pig Day!

What? National Pig Day? Well, not officially recognized by Congress, but many pig owners and zoos around the country celebrate this lesser known holiday each year on March 1st.  Ellen Stanley, a Texas art teacher, created National Pig Day in 1972 with the intent to recognize and be thankful for pigs as intelligent domestic animals. And homeopathy works well for our clever, oinking friends too! Read how Calcarea carbonica helped, Tarbaby, a rescued pot-bellied pig that was struggling to grow and walk. If this little tail doesn’t put a smile on your face then you might need a remedy. Continue.

THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann –  An Outline
Provided in tribute to Julian Winston, May 1941 – June 2005, beloved Editor-In-Chief of Homeopathy Today for 21 years.

It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.

Paragraphs 22–27: The principle of similars

22. The curative powers of medicines exist only because they can produce symptoms in the healthy and remove them from the sick. Medicines can be similar or opposite to the disease. Which to use is revealed by experience.

23. But experience shows that anti-pathic drugs don't cure; the symptoms return with renewed intensity.

24. Therefore homeopathy is the system of choice.

25. This can be learned by pure experiment [not the kind of experiment which is conducted by the regular physician, which is like looking into a kaleidoscope].

26. A weaker dynamic affliction is extinguished by a stronger IF it is similar in nature.

27. Curative powers depend upon the symptoms they produce being similar to the symptoms of the disease, but stronger.

Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book. The Organon is usually studied by the intermediate to advanced student of homeopathy.

First Full Study of Veterinary Homeopathy Published

The first-ever comprehensive study of all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in veterinary homeopathy has been completed and published in the peer-reviewed journal Homeopathy.1 The two-year study, which covered all RCTs of homeopathic intervention (treatment and/or prevention) in any animal species, was conducted by three experts in the field of homeopathic research: Dr. Robert Mathie, Research Development Adviser for the British Homeopathic Association, and Ms Daniela Hacke and Dr. Jürgen Clausen from the Carstens Foundation, Germany.

“In its application to veterinary medicine, homeopathy has been reported in the treatment of many medical conditions in livestock and domestic animals. Although there are a number of well-known RCTs in veterinary homeopathy, a full study of all the research in this field had never previously been carried out,” said Dr. Mathie.

From an exhaustive search of the entire world literature of RCTs in homeopathy, 38 substantive, peer-reviewed reports of RCTs of homeopathic treatment or prevention in veterinary medicine were identified. These covered seven species and 27 medical conditions, and there were similar numbers of treatment and prevention trials.

The authors now plan to take these studies forward to a full systematic review, the results of which will be eagerly anticipated.

For some, the use of homeopathy in the treatment of animals is more controversial than its use in the treatment of people. But with politicians and the medical and veterinary professions becoming increasingly concerned over the excessive use of drugs in livestock farming, further scientific studies into how this complementary medicine could offer a safer alternative are needed. Following the publication of this important paper, future research in veterinary homeopathy will now be better informed.

Stories of Inspiration

I suffered with extreme eczema on the front of my lower legs for over 6 months until my doctor finally sent me to the University of Michigan Dermatology Clinic. Another cream was prescribed with minimal change. I had recently learned of an osteopathic doctor in Dexter, MI who practiced homeopathy. I had no idea how it worked, but I was desperate. After a thorough consultation, she gave me three doses of Sepia to take over a period of one week. The oozing, itchy, red rash that was about twelve inches long and about two inches wide on the front of both legs disappeared, never to return. I was a believer after that and at 70 years old, now only take a few supplements and am enjoying good health. Thanks homeopathy!

A special thanks to Karen B. Allen, CCH for providing the REPERTORY QUIZ to Homeopathy Today magazine in 2003.

You wake in the middle of the night, thoughts running through your mind. You are restless and are very sensitive to odors and noises - you can hear a pin drop. You are able to get back to sleep, but only for a short time. You wake with a start after a dream, and again your mind is racing. The rest of the night you toss and turn and doze briefly. What remedy do you need?
