Petition for World Homeopathy Day

You may have read recently that the United Nations (UN) declared June 21 as the annual World Yoga Day. An Avaaz petition has now been launched for the UN to name April 10th, Samuel Hahnemann’s birthday, World Homeopathy Day. This observance of an annual World Homeopathy Day would contribute to the achievement of the purposes of the UN Charter to promote awareness of, and action on, important social and humanitarian issues – in this case, homeopathy. Please take a moment and support this mission by signing the online petition here.

It’s a New Year, Baby

Dear Baby,
It’s 2015 and this year will be better than the last. I recently joined a wonderful community, the National Center for Homeopathy. My new year’s resolution is to give you a more holistic, healthier and happier life. I’ve already learned so much about how to naturally help your diaper rash, colic, fevers, and more. Boy, do I wish that homeopathy was part of our lives during those first, rocky six months! Thank you for hanging in there with me, Baby. I’m sorry about those frequent, and sometimes unnecessary, doctor visits. I promise next time we’ll try a remedy first. With NCH’s help this is one resolution that will not be broken, and one day I won’t have to remember to reach for our homeopathic medicine kit; it will simply be second nature.
All my love,

Why Mental Symptoms?

A homeopath's detailed questioning about thoughts and feelings is not what people today expect in their health care. When allopathic physicians approach physical ailments, they focus on the physical aspects of the patient, particularly the affected part. A sore throat is considered to be an ailment of the throat, and symptoms in other parts of the person are thought to be unrelated, as is any information the patient might volunteer about his or her thoughts and feelings. In homeopathy, different aspects of the person are considered to be interrelated. If someone with a sore throat shares the information that she was fired from her job last week, the homeopath understands this to be relevant and investigates it further: what happened at work, and how does the patient feel about it? The answers may be the key to selecting the right remedy. Read the full article here.

THE ORGANON by Samuel Hahnemann -  An Outline
Provided in tribute to Julian Winston, May 1941 – June 2005, beloved Editor-In-Chief of Homeopathy Today for 21 years.

It is often said that studying The Organon is fundamental for any successful homeopath. In this series we glean some Winston Wisdom by revisiting Julian’s outline of this masterpiece.

The concept of vital force and its relation to disease (#14-#18):

  1. Everything morbid is curable.
  2. The diseased vital force and the symptoms of the disease are the same.
  3. Since diseases are, therefore, spirit-like, you need spirit-like medicines to be effective against them.
  4. The physician only needs to eliminate the totality of symptoms, which will remove the inner alteration.
  5. The totality is the only guide to the remedy.

Note: The above is only an outline. To comprehend The Organon in its fullness, we recommend that you read the book.
The Organon is usually studied by the intermediate to advanced student of homeopathy.

Discovering Life: Homeopathic Portraits An In-Depth Modern Clinical Materia Medica

Written by Dr. Luc De Schepper, this modern materia medica, the result of eight years of work, is very different from existing ones. Still based on the old provings, more clarity has been brought into these portraits though depth-psychology, philosophy, and clinical examples, while also addressing the problem of translating the language of the patient into the language of the materia medica and provings. Each portrait tells a vivid story, starting from the cyber delusion, causalities, and leading to its compensations. Additionally, from the unpublished "Gems and Pearls from Old Masters," valuable clinically proven tips are added to help the homeopath in his practice. Read more here.

Gelsemium and Gene Regulation

A study performed by the Homeopathy Research Institute (HRI) conducted in human/animal cells #1-4, has suggested that homeopathic remedies have an effect on gene regulation, initiating a cascade of gene actions to correct the disorder or disease at a cellular level. The results of this study, conducted with three different techniques, provided evidence that Gelsemium exerts a prevalently inhibitory effect on a series of genes across a wide dose-range. The results suggest the extreme sensitivity of human gene expression to regulation by ultra-low doses and high dilutions/dynamizations of a plant remedy and encourage further efforts in research on this field. Why I Got Involved

Dr. Peter Fisher, Director of Research at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine, and other prominent figures in the field share with us on YouTube why they got involved in homeopathy research. Check out the video here. Don’t miss your opportunity to see Dr. Fisher live at the 2015 Joint American Homeopathic Conference presenting Overview and Update on Clinical and Basic Research in Homeopathy.

Stories of Inspiration

After a long dental session of being fitted for my first porcelain crown, my dentist suggested a strong pain reliever. Once the anesthetic wore off, he was sure I would need a prescription for the pain. I told him I planned to use homeopathic remedies. He gave me a funny look.

When I came back for the crown to be permanently placed, he asked how I had handled the pain. I told him two doses of Arnica mon. 30x and two doses of Hypericum perf. 30x. He examined my gums and found no swelling or redness, no tender areas at all. The look he gave me this time was one of curiosity and he asked for more information about homeopathy—because it works!

It's the day after Halloween when your daughter comes down with a sweaty fever. Her face is hot with red circles on both cheeks. She had night terrors overnight and demanded the lights be left on, and that you stay by her side. She says she sees ghosts, and her disposition changes rapidly between happiness and laughing to crying and sadness. Her movements are spasmodic, and she's been chewing on her blankets. What remedy do you give her?
